Hearts may not be led until a heart or the Queen of Spades has been played this is called 'breaking' hearts. The Queen of Spades can be led at any time.

At the end of each hand, the number of hearts a player has taken, is counted; they count for 1 point each. The Queen of Spades is 13 points. If a player has won all 13 hearts and the Queen of Spades, that player can choose to subtract 26 points from his score, or to add 26 points to every other player's score.

There are many variations possible, but I use the basic ones from Wikipedia. As of I used to get complaints that it didn't, then when I changed it to make sure she did break then I got even more complaints about that.

I used to play Hearts a lot when I was younger, it was one of the games that came with every version of Windows. I wanted to be able to play Hearts online, and just didn't think all the hundreds of other versions of Hearts would do!

Of the card games I've made, Hearts is probably my favorite. At least I play it a lot more than the others. All the graphics used for the game I found at OpenClipArt , a great site with free graphics.

When playing first, chooses the lowest card in hand. When playing 2nd or 3rd, plays the highest card that will not take the trick, otherwise, plays the lowest card of suit.

When playing last, if there are points in the trick, plays the highest card that will not take the trick or if it must take the trick, plays the highest card of suit avoiding the Queen of Spades.

If playing last and there are no points in the trick, plays the highest card in hand.
