If you see an opponent calling with ThorS Hammer a gutshot Gutshot Straight, then make a note, and you will know he is a weak player that you can exploit next time by value betting harder, as he has a hard time folding his Tetris 10x10 hands. Often this danger can be so extreme that mucking the double gutshot draw is the correct play. External Reviews. This is in contrast to an uncompleted hand like a flush drawwhich needs to hit to have much value, or three of a Tipico Dortmund, which can fill up by hitting any number of cards. Lewis Vinnie Jones

Essentially, the plot boils down to a slain millionaire and a case of blackmail, and when the film kicks into gear, the angst experienced by the Eads character is palpable and compelling.

Disappointingly, suspense collapses in the form of Seagal's character, who's essentially written as a panacea to the lead character's problems and wrests an unconvincing happy end for the star.

Even before then, the film has trouble maintaining its level of suspense. Giving every impression of trying to stretch their screenplay to meet a required runtime, the filmmakers resort to several time-killing scenes — sometimes it's a forced interaction between characters, and other times it's simply Eads walking around aimlessly.

Speaking of which, it doesn't help the movie that the Eads character is a thoroughly unlikable and uninteresting jerk. Most of the other major characters are at least mildly interesting, but whatever time Eads doesn't spend directly imperiled is spent being a cad and a loser.

The times that the film does get interesting are due to the hard work of the story, not of the protagonist. Among all of the performers whose name got drawn out of a hat to be in here, Seagal is the most curious.

It's almost as though his scenes were filmed for another movie, given the abrupt change of tone the film undergoes as soon as he shows up, playing the mafioso persona he's cultivated for the last several years.

I almost wish that Seagal were the main character, because even if this didn't actually improve the quality of the film, it at least would have made it shorter.

As is, it feels overlong at 85 minutes, and I cannot recommend it to anyone but George Eads die-hards. No need to waste time endlessly browsing—here's the entire lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.

It's good for a lazy evening's repast, but it's got no hope of becoming anyone's new favorite. The story: A hapless gambler George Eads is drawn into a vicious setup that places his life at risk.

Despite most of the cast's affiliation with the action genre, there is very little action here, but at the best of times, there's a decent amount of intrigue.

Better comedy than Monty Python Flying Circus. The acting is so awesome Awesome crap that you will spit up your beverage watching this trash.

Highly recommended if you like comedy of the absurd. Welcome to another Seagal trash feast. I don't think it's spoiler territory to reveal he said no!!

Seagal is Paulie Trunks great name a Las Vegas mobster at least I think he was a mobster and is nothing more than a cameo.

Vinnie Jones isn't given much to do either. To be honest nothing noteworthy happens and I mentally checked out within half an hour and started looking at things on my phone.

It fails at being a crime drama and a dark comedy if that is even what it was aiming for the dialogue is weak and the plot thin.

George Eads plays a charmer and professional poker player who gets involved with the underworld of Las Vegas and an accidental killing. This is a slow moving neo-noir, but well photographed with some good visual effects and an atmospheric soundtrack.

Steven Seagal and Vinnie Jones don't feature much, bu then none of the other stars do either. It has a few cursory twists and some moderate tension as the second act gets going but really there's just not enough of it to invest in - not much really happens.

The ending is a bit of a stub and a twist too far. Getting from point A to point B d. I like George Eads. He was entertaining as MacGyver's partner in the reboot.

His connection to CSI has given him a lot of experience, so naturally a film set in Las Vegas seems a natural for him. So why is this movie not rated higher?

No explosions. No car chases. No blazing gun battles. None of that stuff. Just Jack. He wanders from point A to point B, getting along.

Sometimes his crappy Volvo starts. He plays cards. He has a few friends. He needs a shave. Sometimes he gets punched in the face.

He can take it. Rate this movie. Oof, that was Rotten. Meh, it passed the time. So Fresh: Absolute Must See! You're almost there! Just confirm how you got your ticket.

I had previously been blown away by his excellent novel, The Long and Faraway Gone - which while laced with humour, was essentially a serious, compelling, psychological tale, with tension aplenty.

In comparison, Gutshot Straight is more of a tongue-in-cheek crime caper. Charles 'Shake' Bouchon is fresh out of prison, and has been asked by his previous boss to drive from LA to Las Vegas, to deliver a 'package' to Dick Moby aka 'the Whale.

During the trip he encounters the attractive, albeit dangerous, Gina. These two central characters leap off the page, and are forever double-guessing each other's motives, they're also continually indulging in smart dialogue, and exchanging humorous one-liners.

As befits a tale of this nature, not everything goes to plan, and it's the chaos that erupts that makes this novel such an exciting, surprising, and joyful reading experience.

One person found this helpful. A 42 year old no-hoper recidivist get away driver, miraculously transforms into a criminal master mind with deadly allure for an equally implausible stripper come Mata Hari of the underworld.

Berney tries so herd to be flip and witty that you you cringe. The dialogue is flip-flap-flop. I neither believed in, nor cared about, a single character and if you don't give a xxxx where is the thrill in a 'thriller'??

Any book by Lou Berney automatically gets 5 stars from me. The guy is simply one of the best authors around at the moment.

This novel of betrayal and crime careers along and takes the reader from Las Vegas to the beautiful island of Panama. Never slowing down, its a breathtaking ride which I highly recommend.

It's also extremely funny, Berney has a real New York sense of the absurd. A thouroughly enjoyable read. The central characters Gina and Shake sparkle with wit and charisma but I felt as though I had already met all the supporting cast in books by other authors.

The story began to sag a bit in the middle and the last few chapters were overdone, reading like the finale of a circus.

Although the actual ending was cleverly worked. Report abuse. The first book I've read by this author and I found it a bit disappointing, though it rips along at a fair speed.

A pretty silly plot really with too many coincidences which stretch credibility even further. And all the stuff about foreskins was pretty far fetched, but I suppose in every crime novel you have to come up with a unique plot.

I'll try one of his other ones someday. Customers who viewed this item also viewed. Destination Dallas German Edition.

Gutshot Straight - A straight, made by hitting the only ranked card possible (inside draw) which would complete a straight for that player. A straight is a medium strong hand that is only beaten by a flush, a full house, four of a kind, and a straight flush. A gutshot straight draw is a drawing hand that needs a specific card rank to come to hit a straight. For example, T♠ 9♠ is a gutshot straight draw on a Q ♦ 8♣ 2 ♥ flop. If you have a gutshot on the flop, you have an % chance of making a straight on the turn and a % chance of making a straight by the river. Gutshot Straight is a American direct-to-video action film directed by Justin Steele and starring George Eads, AnnaLynne McCord, Stephen Lang, Steven Seagal, Tia Carrere, Vinnie Jones, Ted Levine, and Fiona Dourif. The hand would not be a gutshot straight draw because neither of the cards that would complete it - an A or a 6 - are in the middle of cards already held. The term is often shortened to simply gutshot straight or just gutshot. Directed by Justin Steele. With George Eads, AnnaLynne McCord, Steven Seagal, Ted Levine.
