Encountering Zelda Dragons Farosh, Dinrall and Naydra is one of the most impressive sights of Breath of the Wild.
These majestic beasts weave their way through Hyrule's skyline if you know where to look, and meeting them is required not only to complete certain Shrines, but to get valuable items that can be used in upgrading, trading and cooking.
On this page:
- What you need to know about Dragon farming
- Dinraal dragon location
- Farosh dragon location
- Naydra dragon location
If you need help finding and solving other Shrines, our Shrine location maps page can help, while our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough and guide covers other aspects of the game.
What you need to know about Dragon farming in Zelda: Breath of the Wild
These majestic creatures can be found flying above Hyrule in specific routes, allowing you to reliably track them down.
We have recommended spawn points for farming towards the end of the article, but however you find them, the aim is to shoot them in certain locations with your bow and arrow, causing them to drop the following in order of value from most common to rarest:
- Body (Scale)
- Feet (Claw)
- Face (Fang)
- Horn (Shard of Horn)
The easiest way to get to the above is to paraglide in and switch to your bow, so you can slow time and aim as desired. You need to avoid projectiles that they shoot when they first spot you, so wait until those pass before firing.
If successful, the component will drop for you to collect. Only one item can be obtained per encounter, so you have reset the Dragon's route by forwarding time to the next day (find a camp, or create your own using a bundle of Wood with a Flint or Fire Arrow).
The above components can be used in the following ways:
- Cooking (the best are Fangs, adding 10:30 minutes, and Shard of Horns with a whopping 30 minutes)
- Armour upgrades (such as the 100% shrine completion 'Of the Wild' set)
- Trading with vendor Kilton
- Completing certain Shrines (see below)
You can also sell them for Rupees, but don't fetch for much, and so are recommended for the above activities instead.
Each dragon is tied to a specific Shrine, though you are welcome to ignore those entirely and farm them for resources elsewhere instead. Either way, here is their recommended locations and how to find the follow up Shrine.
Dinraal dragon location (Tutsuwa Nima)
The 'fire' dragon can be easiest found on the north coast of the map.
Head to the East Deplian Badlands north west of Death Mountain, where it'll fly west above a giant skeleton. The nearby mountains are a perfect vantage point to glide in and take aim.
When you have a Dinraal Scale, you'll want to find the Tutsuwa Nima shrine, located pretty much directly between Death Mountain and North Akkala Stable.
Drop down into the ruins at this location and use the Scale to access the Shrine. You're not done yet though - complete the Test of Strength to get the Shrine Orb, ticking it off the list.
Thanks to a new update, it's now possible to play Zelda Breath of the Wild in VR. Want help with the main game? Our Zelda: Breath of the Wild walkthrough can help complete Divine Beasts Vah Ruta, Vah Rudiana, Vah Medoh and Vah Naboris and more. There's also how to get the Master Sword, Hylian Shield and all Zelda Captured Memories and Great Fairy Fountain locations, while our Shrines locations and Shrine maps hub explains where to find and solve every puzzle room, including dragon locations and Labyrinth solutions. We also have a DLC 1 guide and DLC 2 guide, including all Tingle, Majora's Mask, Phantom, Midna outfit locations.
Farosh dragon location (Shae Katha)
The easiest way to get to 'electric' Farosh is at the end of its route, on the southern coast at Rassala Lake in the Faron region.
From there, Farosh will fly in from the north and up into the air, with a waterfall overlooking the dragon as the perfect position to shoot.
That said, it can be difficult to retrieve Dragon items from water, so seeing them drop over land might be a good idea if you can.
Once you have the Farosh Scale, you'll need to travel to the Shae Katha shrine that's to the east of Hyrule Lake. It's specifically found in the north of the Faron region, past a forest / swamp at the foot of Popla Foothills.
The shrine is inside some ruins surrounded by some tricky enemies, so be sure to approach with caution.
Naydra dragon location
Unlike the others, 'ice' Dragon Naydra needs to be freed before it can be found out in the wild.
To do so, climb Mount Lanayru in the south eastern Lanayru region, where you'll find the Spring of Wisdom and Jitan Sa'Mi shrine. The prior link explains the steps required to make Naydra appear around the mountain from then on.
From there, the best place to get drops is the Lanayru Road - East Gate, found west of Mount Lanayru, where the dragon will swoop down low, allowing you to get some easy shots in. The above embedded video by Tyler shows this location in closer detail.
