Cubs' Shota Imanaga: Strikes out 10 in win
Rotowire
Imanaga (9-2) allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Twins.
After a couple of middling performances, Imanaga was in dominant form for this game, recording his second double-digit strikeout effort in his last four starts. The only damage on his line came in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Royce Lewis. Imanaga now has a 3.06 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 128:18 K:BB over 123.1 innings over 21 starts this season. He's projected for a tough road matchup versus the Guardians next week.

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Tallies three hits in win
Rotowire
Swanson went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Twins.
Swanson tallied just his second three-hit effort of the season and first since June 8. It's mostly been a struggle for the shortstop, who's batting just .230 with a .658 OPS for the year, but he's been better lately. Over his last 15 games, Swanson is batting .353 with an .855 OPS. The 30-year-old's MLB track record suggests he could sustain this level of production and finish the season on a high note.

He also stole a base.
ho*rner reached 20 stolen bases in a season for the third straight year as he continued his strong recent play. Over his last 10 games, the infielder is batting .302, and he's swiped six bases in that span. ho*rner isn't a huge power threat with just four home runs on the season, but he can be an effective fantasy asset when he's reaching base and running often.

Cubs' Isaac Paredes: Powers team to win Tuesday
Rotowire
Paredes went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's 7-3 win over the Twins.
Paredes connected for a three-run shot against Minnesota starter Pablo Lopez in the first inning, his first home run with the Cubs and 17th of the season. The 25-year-old had gotten off to a bit of a slow start with his new team, as he came into the night mired in a 3-for-27 slump over seven games since getting traded to Chicago. Paredes should continue to play regularly, however, and Tuesday's big effort could jump start a hot streak for the talented hitter.

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Back in action Tuesday
Rotowire
Suzuki (neck) will start in right field and bat third Tuesday against the Twins.
Suzuki sat out Monday's game while dealing with minor neck stiffness, but he was never expected to miss more than one game. Since the All-Star break, the 29-year-old outfielder has slashed .293/.406/.569 with three homers and eight RBI.

Cubs' Michael Busch: Has rough game Monday
Rotowire
Busch went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in Monday's 3-0 loss to the Twins.
Busch came into the night on a three-game hitting streak, during which he blasted two home runs and only struck out once. It was a different story for the 26-year-old Monday as he struck out four times in a game for just the second time this season, with his last such performance coming back on May 5. Busch should be able to bounce back, as he's batting a solid .257 with a .797 OPS this year.

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Fans five in loss
Rotowire
Hendricks (3-10) took the loss Monday against Minnesota, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out five.
Despite reaching double-digit losses for the third time in his 11-year career, the veteran right-hander posted his third quality start of the season in this 93-pitch outing. Hendricks handcuffed the Twins lineup and tallied five or more punchouts for the fourth time in 2024. Overall, the 34-year-old has pitched to a 6.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 65:27 K:BB across 91.1 innings. His next time on the mound is scheduled to be in Cleveland.

Cubs' Kyle Hendricks: Pitches well but takes 10th loss
Rotowire
Hendricks (3-10) allowed two runs on five hits across six innings to take the loss Monday against the Twins. He walked one and struck out five.
Hendricks pitched well for the second straight start, but rookie David Festa and four Minnesota relievers shut the Cubs down in a 3-0 win. For Hendricks, the five strikeouts are his second most in an outing this year, and he's allowed only five runs across 11 innings in his last two appearances. It's a step in the right direction for the veteran, who still has a rough 6.60 ERA overall. Hendricks will look to keep building momentum in his next scheduled start, which is penciled in for next Monday against the Guardians.

Cubs' Ben Leeper: Healthy again, pitching at Double-A
Rotowire
Triple-A Iowa reinstated Leeper (elbow) from its 60-day injured list July 28 and assigned him to High-A South Bend.
Leeper was bumped up to Double-A Tennessee three days later and has struck out four batters over three scoreless innings across two appearances with the affiliate. Before joining Tennessee, Leeper had made seven rehab appearances between the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and South Bend, recording 11 punchouts while allowing three earned runs in 8.1 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander looks to have made a strong recovery from the third Tommy John surgery of his career, which he underwent in April 2023.

Cubs' BJ Murray: Hits IL at Triple-A
Rotowire
Triple-A Iowa placed Murray on its 7-day injured list July 24 with an unspecified injury.
The corner infielder likely sustained the injury at some point during Iowa's July 23 game against Indianapolis before being deactivated a day later. Murray has struggled in his first season at the Triple-A level, slashing .204/.320/.348 with 11 home runs, 10 stolen bases and a 24.4 percent strikeout rate over 353 plate appearances.

Cubs' Alexander Canario: Out with hamstring strain
Rotowire
Triple-A Iowa placed Canario on its 7-day injured list Friday with a right hamstring strain, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Iowa deactivated Canario just over a week after he was carted off the field with the injury July 24 against Indianapolis. The 24-year-old outfielder is without a clear timeline to return to action. Canario retains a spot on the Cubs' 40-man roster but had been with Iowa since July 19 following a brief stint with the big club. He maintains a .243/.336/.514 slash line over 283 plate appearances at the Triple-A level for the season.

Cubs' Kevin Padlo: Shipped to Chicago
Rotowire
The Cubs acquired Padlo from the Royals on Saturday.
Padlo was assigned to Triple-A Iowa and debuted with the club in Sunday's 10-9 win over St. Louis, starting at first base while going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts. The 28-year-old has seen limited big-league action in each of the previous three seasons but has played in 67 games between the Double-A and Triple-A levels in 2024, slashing .185/.299/.342 with nine home runs and nine stolen bases.

Cubs' Cody Bellinger: Playing DH for a few days
Rotowire
Bellinger is having issues making throws due to lingering effects of a fractured middle finger he sustained July 10, and he won't play in the field during the Cubs' three-game series against the Twins that begins Monday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Bellinger doesn't have any restrictions at the plate but will have to give up his spot in the field temporarily in hopes of allowing his finger to recover enough to throw without issue. Bellinger has started at DH in all six appearances since being activated from the IL. He's 8-for-24 (.333) with a pair of homers during that stretch.

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Dealing with minor neck issue
Rotowire
Suzuki is out of Monday's lineup due to neck stiffness but is expected to be back in the starting nine for Tuesday's game against Minnesota, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Suzuki was slated for a day off Sunday but manager Craig Counsell kept him in the lineup after Ian Happ was scratched with shoulder soreness. Instead, Suzuki will get the night off Monday with the expectation of playing Tuesday.

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Getting rare night off
Rotowire
Suzuki is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.
Suzuki will exit the lineup for the first time since June 8 in Cincinnati, when he took a seat while he managed an oblique injury. With Suzuki heading to the bench, Mike Tauchman will make a second straight start, this time replacing Suzuki in right field after previously filling in for an injured Ian Happ (shoulder) in Sunday's win over the Cardinals.

Cubs' Ian Happ: Starting Monday
Rotowire
Happ (shoulder) will bat leadoff and start in left field Monday against the Twins.
Hap was scratched from the lineup ahead of Sunday's 6-2 win over the Cardinals with shoulder soreness, but the injury won't cost him more than one game. The outfielder enters Monday's contest having gone hitless with five strikeouts in his last 11 at-bats.

Cubs' Nazier Mule: Struggling in return from surgery
Rotowire
Mule (elbow) has turned in a 3.72 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 22:26 K:BB across 29 innings in nine starts with Single-A Myrtle Beach since returning from the 7-day injured list May 28.
Mule underwent Tommy John surgery in late March of last year but made a speedy recovery from the procedure, as he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 4. After four starts in Arizona, Mule joined Myrtle Beach but has struggled mightily with controlling his offerings. Control hadn't been a strong suit for Mule before he underwent Tommy John surgery, so it wouldn't be surprising if the Cubs soon abandoned the idea of developing the hard-throwing right-hander as a starter and moved him to the bullpen at Myrtle Beach.
